Rasmussen College Digital Media Arts Degree Program

Digital Design and Animation is the use of a computer to do the work that Graphic Artists and Animators once did completely by hand. The computer allows a graphic artist far more latitude in the creation of any design, thanks to the undo button. Some examples would be the creation of a graphic image, a logo, a business card, or a wedding invitation, just to name a few. Digital Design and Animation can be used in advertising, forensic animation, custom design work, commercial products, home design, virtual walk-through animations, and just about anything else you can conceive. The only limitations are your imagination and your skill level. We will help you improve your skill level. Plus, you’ll leave Rasmussen College with a real world, professional portfolio that will highlight your talents to potential employers

What Digital Designers and Animators Do:

  • Design complex graphics and animations, using independent judgment, creativity, and computer equipment

  • Create two-dimensional and three-dimensional images depicting objects in motion or illustrating a process, using computer animation or modeling programs

  • Make objects or characters appear lifelike by manipulating light, color, texture, shadow, and transparency, or manipulating static images to give the illusion of motion

  • Apply story development, directing, cinematography, and editing to animation to create storyboards that show the flow of the animation and map out key scenes and characters

  • Script, plan, and create animated narrative sequences under tight deadlines, using computer software and hand drawing techniques

  • Produce still and animated graphics for on-air and taped portions of television broadcasts, using electronic video equipment

  • Develop graphics and layouts for product illustrations, company logos, and Internet websites

  • Draw and print charts, graphs, illustrations, and other artwork, using a computer

  • Determine size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, and select style and size of type

  • Develop graphics and layouts for product illustrations, company logos, and Internet websites
